Victoria Amazonica - The Legend
Conta a lenda amazônica, que a flor Victoria Amazonica, tem sua origem em uma comovente história. Uma história de amor. Conta-se que Naiá, uma jovem índia encantada pelo Deus da Lua, Jaci, almejava se tornar a ele e ser transformada em uma estrela para estar ao lado dele. Os índios a alertavam de que ao se unir a Jaci, ela deixaria de ser índia, mas Naiá persistia em seu desejo, fascinada pela beleza do Deus.
Numa noite serena à beira do rio, Naiá, iludida pelo reflexo da Lua na água, imaginou estar diante de Jaci e se inclinou para tocá-lo, resultando em sua trágica queda e afogamento. Apesar dos esforços, ela não conseguiu se salvar e partiu deste mundo.
Ao saber da triste notícia, Jaci, com profunda comoção, decidiu homenagear Naiá de uma maneira especial. Em vez de transformá-la em uma estrela como fazia com outras índias, Jaci a metamorfoseou numa planta aquática majestosa: a Vitória-Amazonica, conhecida como a "estrela das águas" ou Victoria Regia.
Assim, a Vitória-Amazonica se tornou o símbolo dessa lenda comovente, representando a admiração, a persistência e a transformação que ocorreu por meio do amor e da devoção de Naiá pelo Deus lua: Jaci.
According to Amazonian legend, the Victoria Amazonica flower has its origins in a touching story—a story of love. It is said that Naiá, a young indigenous girl enchanted by the Moon God, Jaci, longed to be with him and wished to be transformed into a star to be by his side. The indigenous people warned her that by joining Jaci, she would cease to be one of them, but Naiá persisted in her desire, fascinated by the beauty of the God.
One serene night by the river, Naiá, deceived by the Moon’s reflection on the water, believed she was facing Jaci and leaned down to touch him, resulting in her tragic fall and drowning. Despite her efforts, she could not save herself and departed from this world.
Upon learning of the sad news, Jaci, deeply moved, decided to honor Naiá in a special way. Instead of transforming her into a star as he did with other girls, Jaci metamorphosed her into a majestic aquatic plant: the Victoria Amazonica, known as the “star of the waters” or Victoria Regia.
Thus, the Victoria Amazonica became the symbol of this moving legend, representing admiration, persistence, and the transformation that occurred through Naiá’s love and devotion for the Moon God, Jaci.
